Intranet Features

CU-KnowHow uses clever technology and good design to offer advanced features. These features have been designed so that your staff can both maintain and develop the intranet without learning special skills.

Select a topic:

1. Effective Menu Control
2. Fully Indexed Searching
3. Smart Databases
4. Customisable Intranet

1. Effective Menu Control

CU-KnowHow uses a clever menu system to allow easy navigation form any page to any page. In fact, it uses the same menu structure as this website.

The menu bar has a simple structure - tables give direct access to intranet pages or open further options for specific target pages. This means the user is never more than a few simple clicks from any piece of information.

Thoroughly tested coding ensures complete menu reliability.

Using quick edits to a cascading style sheet the menu's look and feel can be completely changed. The menus can be expanded and made more complex as you require. This only requires an html editing application.

2. Fully Indexed Searching

CU-KnowHow can be searched from the front page of the intranet. This search engine uses proven Microsoft technology - Index Server is used to generate detailed results when searching your content.

There's no need to change records or add new fields to the search when you add new information - Index Server automatically updates search records whenever new content is published to your intranet.

A straightforward cascading style sheet controls the appearance of the search results. This means you can customize the results page to match your corporate standards.

3. Smart Databases

Microsoft Access databases have been included with CU-KnowHow to perform and manage time-consuming tasks quickly. These databases are displayed as hyperlinked content on the intranet without any formatting required on your part.

  • Telephone Directory
The front page telephone directory allows your staff to search for any person within your credit union by simply typing in the required surname. All matching results are displayed on the front page.
An Access database is used to store all contact details. There is no need to tackle any difficult coding - to keep the telephone listing accurate all you need do is keep the Access records up to date.
  • Latest changes.
Manually updating What's New type pages is time consuming. CU-KnowHow manages these links using an Access database.
The database has a specially created structure that employs a simple tick/untick option to mark items as 'recently changed'. These items are automatically displayed in the Latest Changes window on the front page of the intranet.
  • Forms and Information Files
An access database allows uses to sort and display lists of forms and information files either in alphabetical or numerical order. The same database concepts and editing structure as the Latest Changes database has been used to make sure there is no unnecessary complexity.
  • Credit Union Notice Board
This central window on the front page is your opportunity to really catch your reader's eye.
Driven by an Access dbase this window displays a dated heading and a summary or introduction to the topic. A hyperlink for each item takes your reader directly to the content.
  • 4. Customisable Intranet

The CU-KnowHow design is part of Maxen's aim to deliver content as quickly as possible. We have kept the interface open and content driven.
You may wish to change the colour schemes and graphics used in the site - doing this is easy. A quick-to-edit style sheet alters the appearance of the menu bar. The remaining items can be changed using any html editing package. More complex items (such as Flash animations) can be added at any time.
